Students from Hope Street Academy's Environmental Science, Biology, Zoology, and Ecology classes went to the Kansas Museum of History to learn from educators from the Topeka Zoo about the importance of monarch butterflies as pollinators. They then got the opportunity to catch monarch butterflies in the nearby prairie to help participate in a citizen science campaign where the butterflies were tagged to help scientists track their migration from the United States to Mexico for the winter. Our students caught one butterfly, which was tagged and released along with two other butterflies that were caught earlier by the Topeka Zoo staff.
